Assemblage (found branches and their pigment on paper), 70 x 70 cm, each

From Lake Ørnsø is a site-specific, commissioned work for Art Centre Silkeborg Bad, Denmark, made from barks, branches, seeds, and rocks, gathered from a forest by the lake surrounding the exhibition venue.

Each of these natural elements is presented with its released pigment, displayed as unprocessed powder on canvas. Reducing the artwork to its basic components, I return to the organic features of the pictorial process. The pigment bridges natural elements to artistic production, reversing the relationship between the source and its transformation. Instead of extracting pigments from organic materials to paint with them, I metaphorically extract them from the pictorial process to return it back to nature.

The rigid structure of the frames exposes the limitations of the rational expectation that aims to encapsulate the understanding of nature within a picture hung on a wall. Therefore, the work is presented as a floor installation, inviting visitors to establish an alternative visual interaction with the natural elements found on the forest ground.
