Naima
(soil rubbings), 2021
Frottage drawings (soil and grass on paper)
70 x 50 cm – 27.5 x 19.6 inches
13 x 21,5 cm – 5.10 x 8.40 inches

“Naima” is a series of abstract drawings made by rubbing the paper onto the earth and grass in a place that holds a special significance for my personal life. The work serves as a trace: both of the action of imprinting the paper, and my own emotional landscape. Each drawing emerges behind my sight as a tangible record of the land’s textures, and my movements.

This singular technique was instinctively chosen by the need to physically manifest my sense of grief for a recent loss, imbuing the medium with a powerful emotional resonance.

The resulting series is suffused with a touching sense of intimacy and personal connection, inviting to contemplate its fragile delicacy.
